3 Quick and Easy Halloween Recipes

Although I've already said Halloween isn't my favourite holiday, if there is something I do like it's themed food! I was baking these with children so they're pretty easy and it's nothing that requires a lot of time or skills.

The first is some Chocolate Bat Cookies. For this you'll need

  • 125g of softened butter.
  • 85g of icing sugar.
  • 1 large egg yolk.
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of milk
  • 175g of plain flour
  • 50g of cocoa powder
  • Milk chocolate to spread on the wings once cooked and hundreds and thousands.


First of all heat your oven to 180°C, beat the butter and sugar together in a bowl. Then beat in the egg yolk, vanilla and milk until it's creamy and finally sift in the flour and cocoa. Once you've mixed it all together properly you want to shape the dough into a disc shape, cover it in cling film and leave it in the fridge for 15 minutes.



After the 15 minutes is up, grab a chopping board and dust it with flour to prevent sticking when you roll it out. The dough can be as thick or thin as you want its really about your preference. I got this bat cookie cutter because I'm really not artistic enough to cut it out by hand! Cut out as many as you can fit, sit them on some baking parchment and pop them into the oven for 10 minutes! Melt some milk chocolate while you wait, once they're out spread the chocolate over the wings, sprinkle the hundreds and thousands and add some eyes and you're done! 



The next are some simple Strawberry Ghosts which I actually did quickly while the dough for the cookies was in the fridge! All you'll need for this one is:
  • White Chocolate
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Strawberries
  • Chocolate Chips


This is really pretty simple but really tasty, who doesn't like chocolate and strawberries! First of all you'll need to melt your white chocolate and cover your strawberries in it, leave them to harder while you melt some milk chocolate or you can do what I did and use some left over chocolate from the bats. Once you've done that add the chocolate chips for eyes and the chocolate for the mouths, pop them in the fridge to harden properly and they're ready to eat at any time.




The last quick recipe is just some Cupcakes with Halloween decorations. Ingredients for this are:
  • 125g of Self Raising Flour
  • 125g of Butter
  • 125g of Caster sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 a tsp of Vanilla extract


Sreheating your oven to 180°C, put all your ingredients in a bowl and beat it together with an electric whisk until it's completely smooth and creamy. Divide the mixture between as many cases as you want -  I used 12 and that gave me good size cakes. Bake the cakes for 15 to 20 minutes until they've risen then leave them to cool. Whisk the icing sugar together with some hot water then decorate them as you want! I use this recipe any time I'm doing cupcakes as they're so easy and quick and perfect for nearly any occasion and they are so delicious, I could honestly eat all 12 in one day!
